Do you have ubuntu-desktop installed? A proper installation and
upgrade has this package installed. ubuntu-desktop depends on
gnome-session-canberra, and gnome-session-canberra Recommends
libcanberra-pulse. As noted here[0], Recommends are installed by
default by apt-get/aptitude/Synaptic/KPackageKit.
