I've applied these to my tree now too (with a minor typo fix in the
commit message) and will push them once my own make distcheck passes.

For anyone else who wants to test further once they are commit, this is
what I did:

 git clone git://..........
 ./autogen.sh -V
 mkdir bld
 cd bld/
 ../configure
 make distcheck

NB the -V argument to ./autogen.sh is just to stop it running configure
(passing the -V to configure just prints out the version).
