Yeah I think this approach will make more sense when I get around to
doing some bigger changes on the way that m-s-r works.
I'll work out a more concrete plan for the code/api level changes I want
to introduce (you've already read the overview which isn't too far away
from what we've discussed before), so I'll try and formulate the next
stage of that in due course.
