Have you tested that pa_alsa_pcm_is_hw really returns FALSE for iec958?
I thought iec958 is just an alias like "front" or "surround51". The
implementation uses snd_pcm_info_get_card(info) to determine the answer
(valid card index -> true, error -> false). It seems probable that the
function will return a valid card index for iec958.
