I cannot acess the freedesktop.org site at the moment, but roughly do:

opcontrol --setup -i /usr/bin/pulseaudio
opcontrol --start
run pulseaudio, do playback
opcontrol --stop
opreport -l

it helps to have debug info in pulseaudio

--setup restricts sampling to a specific process
