I think the patches make sense, so they should be added to the next
branch at least. My general view about pushing stuff to the master
during freezes is that it should only done for bug fixes, and these
patches are just optimizations, not bug fixes. However, I also think
that a freeze without a release candidate is pointless, and since RC1
isn't out yet, I don't mind pushing these to master. Do as you like.
