Yes, that's a logical conclusion.
In fact, on my Gentoo system, I could not configure Java to access
pulseaudio directly, i.e. DirectAudioDeviceProvider was already the
default, and attempts to replace it with PulseAudioMixerProvider were
unsuccessful.
