[pulseaudio-discuss] Trying to send/receive audio between Windows<->Linux

Hi,

I'm using a simple tcp pulseaudio 15 based setup over wired LAN to share a
single headset between a Linux desktop (that has the headset attached) and
a Linux laptop. This has been working great, but now I'm attempting to add
a Windows host to the mix.

I downloaded precompiled pulseaudio 1.1 for windows from the freedesktop
site, but it wouldn't work at all when I attempt this:

load-module module-tunnel-sink server=tcp:192.168.1.118:4656

Then I found another binary online for version 15 (here:
https://pgaskin.net/pulseaudio-win32/ ). This is the same version I run on
my linux boxes so I decided to try it. It definitely appears to get further
than the 1.1 version. It creates the sinks, it connects to the Linux host
and it registers the tunnels.

But there is no sound output at all when I click on the mixer slider on
windows. I looked with pactl on windows and I set the tunnel sink as
default. Eventually sometimes "a protocol error" pops up, but this is the
only sign of life. I can ping the Linux host and the firewalls are opened
between both.

Did anyone on this mailing list manage to get Windows<->Linux working with
pulseaudio? If yes, can you share your setup? What versions of pulseaudio
are you running? I'd prefer to avoid having to use Jack etc as I'mm making
this in preparation for a windows laptop I'll get and it's unlikely I'll
have administrator access to the laptop so I'm trying to make this work
without having to install virtual sound drivers (which jack requires on
windows).

Many Thanks,
Luk
