Release Wranglers,

The unreviewed and unspellchecked minutes from today's call:

Attendees
---------
Jim Gettys
Stuart Kreitman
Keith Packard
Kevin Martin
Leon Shiman
Paul Anderson

Release Status
--------------
Kevin has updated the release status page and has started
filling out the test matrix. Kevin is fixing some additional
defects, and he should be completing those checkins shortly.
When that is done, he plans to put down another release
snapshot tag tonight. He forgot to update the date in the
last snapshot, so he will start updating that from now on.

Kevin would still like to get as much testing as possible.
In the detailed test instructions, Kevin has also included
the type of information he would like people send when they
have completed testing.

Tinderbox
---------
Kevin asked about the progress on some of the Tinderbox
items we discussed on Monday. Jim isn't sure if Bryce has
the access he needs yet, so he is working with Keith to
get that fixed. (This led into a brief discussion on ssh2
access keys, but Jim now has access.) We'll hopefully
get an update on some of the other Tinderbox issues on Friday.

Bugzilla entries
----------------
Bugs blocking #351 (the X11R6.8 release blocker):

#255: Kevin is working with Mike Harris on this.

  #303: PPC 64 support
This is another patch that Mike Harris and Alan Coopersmith
looked at and didn't raise any concerns. This is building
on the PPC platform at Red Hat, so Kevin is going to check it in.

  #337: Gumby
Keith has a new image to replace it. Keith will leave the name
of the file the same and just change its contents.

#738: Bogus contact addresses in os/utils.c
The builder e-mail address should be changed for each of the
vendors, since this really is a vendor support issue.

  #855: Problem with xterm
Keith will talk to Thomas Dickey to see if he would mind if
someone imported his latest version of xterm into the tree.

  #922: Radeon/RENDER acceleration
This was originally a problem with switching the console. That
problem has been addressed, but there is still a problem with
context switching. Kevin is working with Eric on this, in
addition to the problem building w/o DRI.

#925: freetype 2.1.8 symbols break the build
Has everything that needs to be checked in for this actually
been checked in? As far as Kevin knows, this should be resolved
        at this time.

  #961: Xnest crashes in damagePaintWindow
Kevin has a pretty good idea about what's going on here and will
work on a fix. Keith may take a look at this as well. Damage
cannot operate on Xservers that don't provide a screen pixmap
function. He thought about punting Xservers that don't provide
this function, but then realized that this will take away software
cursors. In the end, he's going to change damage to handle servers
that don't provide a screen pixmap.

#964: Xprt consumes 100% of CPU
Roland traced it down and finally found that this is a problem
with the audit logging. Roland found that if he reverted a patch
back to the X11R6.6 behavior, the problem went away. The
consequence of this is that identical log messages are not folded
together. Kevin can't find a record of who changed this behavior.
Nobody had a problem with reverting this behavior, since there
is no other easy, obvious solution at the moment.

  #972: ProjectRoot installation problem
Kevin's solution is that if nothing outside of ProjectRoot
is defined, he'll install it in ProjectRoot.

  #991: Composite exposes extra visuals
Keith's fix will be to hide the visuals from the client. The
Composite extension will be changed to be able to use hidden
visuals. After further discussion, it was noted that the visuals
aren't needed any longer. Keith will give this some thought,
since it could involve changing the extension by adding another
        request.

#993: Do we want XEVIE as a separate library?
There was some consensus on keeping it as a separate library,
since the plan for it is to be able to be released independent
of other libraries and be maintained separately. Stuart K
        will take care of this.

  #???: Documentation bug
Need to start thinking of changes from 6.7 to 6.8. Kevin isn't
going to be working on this now, since he's busy with everything
else, but he encouraged others to start thinking about this.

#1004: XDarwin man page on Linux systems
It has been this way for at least 3 years. If someone would like
to work on this, they should feel free. Kevin would like to
take this off the blocker list, since it has been a problem for
        3 years - no objections.

 #1024: Japanese ctext conversion bug
The patch needs to be reviewed.

#1026: Xnest is missing XKB on BuildServersOnly
Fix was included. No objections - Kevin will check it in.

#1029: Hard failure of socket directories cannot be chowned to root
This is an unintended consequence of a recent fix. Should
we back out the fix. One suggestion is to have a helper
application do this. Or, we could back out the change and
        go back to X11R6.7 behavior.

#1032: Damage causes rootless XDarwin to crash
This is hopefully the same as #961

Kevin will continue to send daily "blocker bug" status updates until
we release.
