Hmm.  Each mailman list can be separately administered; you can check and 
see who adminsters any particular list by looking in the info page
(Linked from the List-subcscribe: header line).

I don't know why commit messages would be backed up; perhaps there's 
something misconfigured with the list?  Or perhaps mailman is horribly 
broken elsewhere.  It's been known to happen...
