[SCIM] Compose keys don't function with SCIM's gtk immodule

It seems that dead keys don't work at all in qt applications if LC_CTYPE is 
set to ja_JP or ja_JP.UTF-8 in Mandrake, but they do work with en_US.UTF-8 if 
SCIM-XIM is not running.  I wonder if it is possible to suspend SCIM-XIM when 
users select 'English/Keyboard' from SCIM's language menu so they can type 
accented characters in the middle of writing in Japanese or Chinese...?
