The reporter sent a follow-up. It seems this locale problem is related
with the GTK+ 2.2 and 2.4 incompatibility. I don't really know what
happened, just forwarding the report to keep record.

Yes, I am using the GTK+ 2.4. After I recompile the source from deb-src
http://chinese.alioth.debian.org scim/
For now, it works fine under my Gnome 2.6.1 with zh_HK.Big5HKSCS or
zh_TW.Big5 locales (have not test other). Typing chinese in crxvt-big5
doesnt crash too. I will inform you if there are any other problem.
