[Spice-devel] Spice on Fedora 12 in RHEV

First, a little background. Our company is running the RHEV beta program
currently. We have purchased a solid set of HP blade hardware, along
with switching, and the like, and we have new RHEV licenses coming with
the purchase. However, until that has actually been delivered, we're
testing out RHEV through Red Hat's beta program.
As a result, because RHEV has gone GA, we no longer get commercial
support from Red Hat. Thus, the reason for me turning to the community
mailing list for support.
With that said, I have built a Fedora 12 virtual machine in our RHEV
environment, and installed the RPMs per these instructions here:
http://www.spice-space.org/download.html
I have successfully installed the spice-client and qemu-spice RPMs. Now,
using the spice protocol through RHEV, I should be able to see
performance comparable to Microsoft's RDP, correct? However, this is not
the case. Instead, I see very poor performance, worse than VNC. Should
this be the case?
If my understanding of the architecture is correct, I actually want to
install the spice-server RPM, if I'm using my Windows laptop as a spice
client, correct? If this is the case, the video and mouse interaction is
just as horrid.
However, with the -server install, I'm not sure that any daemon is
running. Picking apart the RPM, other than libraries, and a couple docs,
it doesn't appear that there are any binaries necessary for starting
such a process. Am I missing something? The docs don't appear to address
the issue I'm currently facing.
Long story short, I would like to run Fedora 12 as a development machine
in RHEV that I can connect to with my Windows laptop. I would like to
take advantage of the spice protocol, instead of VNC, so I can get solid
performance over the VPN.
I should mention that setting up the spice software on Windows in RHEV
provides the performance I'm seeking. I'm assuming these RPMs are
comparable in functionality to the Windows software.
Thanks,
