vdi_port will be replaced by a virtio-serial based solution.  For now 
both devices are in the patches, although I don't plan to submit the old 
vdi_port device upstream.  None of them is enabled by default.

You can enable the new device using
   -device virtio-serial -device spicevmc

You can enable the old vdi_port device using
   -device vdi_port

Better don't try to enable both at the same time ;)
