Didn't we have 2 commits for this, one to make the server do the right thing and
one to make the client be more forgiving in what it accepts, so that non fixed client
+ fixed server and visa versa would both work ?

Other then that one remark, ack! Go for it (as in cherry pick to 0.8 branch, push).
