my system have not set LD_LIBRARY_PATH, ldconfig shows that following
dirs are included:
/usr/local/lib
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
/lib32
/usr/lib32
/lib
/usr/lib

and libfreetype.la is in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu.

It looks like configure script have not search freetype related libraries.
