I have done a cursory review, and it doesn't seem to break things
horribly <grin>.

A few nits:

This introduces a warning; and we were down to effectively zero, so I'd
really like it out...

git-am yarps about trailing line feeds on this one.

I am slammed for time, and I do intend to try it more carefully with
agent support, but it appears to me you've done no harm.

I had one other comment on the series sent separately, but broadly you
can consider it an ACK from me.
