I think we can use flags in the future when the protocol evolves. Fwiw, I don't expect much changes for this dmabuf sharing mechanism. Over a year, the main change is the "done" synchronization reply, which could be added/disabled with a flag. (the rest is cosmetic that would have been changed during review).
