I'd like to upgrade Evolution to v. 3.8 (namely 3.8.5-2 from Debian Sid). I have access to another Debian PC with this version of Evolution which corrects some bugs. I tried to install Syncevolution (from stable ppa) on this PC. To my surprise, Synaptic offered me to... uninstall Evolution, no less! How could I get Syncevolution yo work with Evolution 3.8? Partially answering to myself, it seems to be a dependency issue. Evolution 3.8 wants (and installs as dependency) libebook-1.2-14. Syncevolution then complains that libebook-1.2-13 is missing and not installable, whereas it should be content with version 1.2-14 (?) I could check that it happened even with Syncevolution 1.3.99 from unstable repo. No, these two versions of libebook are incompatible. There have been considerable API changes between 3.4 and 3.6. > I could check that it happened even with Syncevolution 1.3.99 from > unstable repo. I'm not compiling SyncEvolution for EDS >= 3.6, although the source supports that. I still need to figure out how (and for what) I should compile the source when targeting more recent EDS versions. Not sure whether it helps, but at least for Ubuntu Sebastian Heinlein is offering binaries, see http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.mobile.syncevolution/4171 -- Best Regards, Patrick Ohly The content of this message is my personal opinion only and although I am an employee of Intel, the statements I make here in no way represent Intel's position on the issue, nor am I authorized to speak on behalf of Intel on this matter. The sync-ui starts correctly. Now, on the PC which has Evo 3.8, I'd like to make some kind of sync test, just to check everything is OK. I don't want all my data on this PC, and I'm reluctant to install Evo 3.8 on my production PC because it would be hard to go back in case of a problem. I'm thinking of creating a dummy Funambol (e.g) account; is there a simpler way? -- Daniel CLEMENT From dclement1 at laposte.net Tue Oct 1 16:55:22 2013 From: dclement1 at laposte.net (Daniel CLEMENT) Date: Tue, 1 Oct 2013 18:55:22 +0200 Subject: [SyncEvolution] Compatibility with Evolution 3.8 In-Reply-To: <1380639929.4132.8.camel@m6400> References: <1380631516.5079.9.camel@m6400> <1380633871.5079.15.camel@m6400> <1380634455.5818.13.camel@pohly-mobl1.fritz.box> <1380639929.4132.8.camel@m6400> Message-ID: <1380646522.4132.15.camel@m6400> Le mardi 01 octobre 2013 ? 17:05 +0200, Daniel CLEMENT a ?crit : > [...] > > Not sure whether it helps, but at least for Ubuntu Sebastian Heinlein is > > offering binaries, see > > http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.mobile.syncevolution/4171 > > > Well, the packages from his PPA install fine on a Debian machine. At Memotoo they have a demo account which one can use. I successfully tested various syncs in both directions between their site and Evolution. This was Memotoo, not Funambol, but I don't suppose it makes much difference. I didn't test with the phone, as nothing changes on that side. Now, if I'm to end up with Evo 3.8 on my production PC, it will uninstall my current Syncevolution in the process, and I'll have to reinstall it from the above PPA. I hope my settings will be preserved in the progress. Thanks for pointing me to S. Heinlein's PPA.
