It's pretty hard to see what's the problem, because the logging capabilities
are a bit lacking :)

I've added some more logging:

and there are bugfixes regarding the deletion of empty journal files:

629bfc5a might fix your issue... It would be great if you could try with
those patches, or simply with latest git.
