I looked at the commit again, and I don't see anything suspicious...

Can you start systemd-journald in debug mode:

1. create file

# /etc/systemd/system/systemd-journald.service.d/debug.conf
[Service]
Environment=SYSTEMD_LOG_LEVEL=debug

2. reload

systemctl daemon-reload
systemctl restart systemd-journald

This should allow you to capture log messages from journald.
