            Bug ID: 90464
Summary: systemctl: Make default output monochrome. Add option
                    --color like in GNU ls(1)
           Product: systemd
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: Other
                OS: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: medium
         Component: general
          Assignee: systemd-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
          Reporter: jari.aalto at cante.net
        QA Contact: systemd-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org

The standard output of systemctl(1) is in color. This is problem with accessing
HOSTs from terminals and connections (like Phone sshd, etc.) that do not
support color.

It would be preferable to display output in plain monochrome without ANSI color
codes and have separate option --color to enable color in output. This would be
similar to what e.g. GNU ls(1) does:

Using color to distinguish file types is disabled both by default and
with --color=never. With --color=auto, ls emits color codes only when
standard output is connected to a terminal. The LS_COLORS environment
       variable can change the settings.

The program could also read environment variable SYSTEMCTL_OPTIONS where users
culd add the "--color" option as needed.
