There's a bug submitted upstream
(http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=8753) and it looks like 
automake is on its way to be fixed.

Is there maybe a plan to convert Makefile.am to use

bin_PROGRAMS-$(HAVE_GTK)

ala kernel Makefiles instead of

if HAVE_GTK
bin_PROGRAMS += ...
endif

Is this even allowed with automake?
