I'm not going to answer questions that just lead to speculation, but I
can say this:

The MeeGo integration patch that was merged in systemd was
specifically created for the systemd integration in the meego.com
OS[1]. There are still many of devices on the market that you can
still purchase that operate this OS, and those are still supported,
this patch does not change that.

The removal of this distribution-specific code means that we don't
think it's worth for systemd to carry this customization anymore.
MeeGo.com will likely not produce updates to systemd version 185 or
above, ever, for users of the meego.com OS. And if it every would,
then we could just use the --distro=other build code in systemd to
make it work, trivially.
