The patch is still in my queue of patches to review. I am generally open
to make it possible to store coredumps outside of the journal, but the
patch was a bit too complex for me to grasp from a quick view.

Also, there are a couple of things I really don't like. The Preprocess
stuff is something I really don't like, we should not invoke external
programs for this stuff...

Also, I'd prefer if we could generate the file names from parts of the
stuff we store in the journal record, instead of storing the name in the
journal. coredumpctl also needs to be updated to automatically discover
the coredump if it is still around.
