Hm, it seems that I gave bad advice to Steven regarding _BOOT_ID.
I now tested without setting _BOOT_ID, just using the second argument
to _seek_monotonic(), and everything seems to work fine. And the
code also looks correct.


PS. Steven: any comments on the last proposed changes?
