Sound fine to me, it really is a core functionality with very little overhead.
The same rule as for other things: if people want to optimize-out
basic functionality we should not make it harder than needed, but we
should also not go crazy trying to support that with upstream options.
That means: git-is-your-friend for weird porting or supporting exotic features.
