The message is that the control process exited, not the main process.
The control process is purely internal, This means that there is something
wrong in
your service and that systemd refuses to start it. It stops before even
attempting your main command

Could you please pastebin the output of the two following commands ?

* systemctl status syslog-ng
* systemctl cat syslog-ng
