It's pretty simple, and a one-liner, to get the value of a property
from a bash script with busctl. Eg:

$ busctl get-property org.freedesktop.systemd1 /org/freedesktop/systemd1/unit/gdm_2eservice org.freedesktop.systemd1.Service Restart
s "always"
