man systemd(1):

$SYSTEMD_LOG_TARGET
===================
systemd reads the log target from this environment variable. This can be
overridden with --log-target=.

--log-target=
=============
Set log target. See systemd.log_target above.

systemd.log_color, systemd.log_level=, systemd.log_location,
systemd.log_target=, systemd.log_time, systemd.log_tid
============================================================
Controls log output, with the same effect as the $SYSTEMD_LOG_COLOR,
$SYSTEMD_LOG_LEVEL, $SYSTEMD_LOG_LOCATION, $SYSTEMD_LOG_TARGET,
$SYSTEMD_LOG_TIME, and $SYSTEMD_LOG_TID environment variables described
above. systemd.log_color, systemd.log_location, systemd.log_time, and
systemd.log_tid= can be specified without an argument, with the same
effect as a positive boolean.

    man: significantly downgrade the Options section in systemd(1)

    This structure of the man page originates from the time when systemd was
    installed on top of sysvinit systems, and users had an actual chance to
    interact with the systemd binary directly. Nowadays it is almost
never called
    directly, so let's properly explain this in the overview.

    The Options section is moved down below the kernel command line,
those options
    are only needed in special circumstances. Let's refer the reader to the
    description of the kernel command line options, and not duplicate the
    descriptions (which makes the text longer than necessary and
increases chances
    for discrepancies).

Well, I do not see any reference to "kernel command line" in description
above. There is cross reference to kernel-command-line(7) in See also
... let's try it.

We are back to square one.
