Hi Jonathan,
I apologize to have been so unclear, the "three-pieces-trick" consists
simply in putting together a rectangle and two half circles at the ends,
applying a gradient to them in a way so that it seems to be only one piece.
Attached here an example, an image is better then 1000 words (and that's
why we make icons  ;)
