Just keep the icon, it looks good. :)
Yes, it is possible to change the icon theme on Linux by default. On
Windows, you can do it too...with some extra tools.
I personally use GTK and the GNOME icon theme (and some other Tango
icons). On a GNOME desktop, you'll see a grey "X" most of the
time. :)
