Summary: NAT traversal for SIP using Empathy fails
Product: Telepathy
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: major
Priority: medium

AssignedTo: mikhail.zabaluev at nokia.com

> I tried using SIP with Empathy on an Ubuntu 8.10 laptop connected to the network via a DHCP wireless connection which AFAIK doesn't have UPnP.
> When I attempt to add my Ekiga.net account to Empathy, I get a rather unhelpful error that just says "Network error". There is really not enough information here -- this is not enough information to be able to work out what's wrong, and to know whether or not I can expect to FIX this, or whether my internet access is unsatisfactory for using this kind of communication channel (requiring support for incoming ports).
> Empathy needs to solve these sorts of things if it is to have any chance of competing with Skype.
Confirmed by a nmuber users in Ubuntu versions 8.10 through 10.4.
