My office hosts a jabber server that's only accessible within their network. 
When I connect to that network using a VPN, connect to the server, and then
lose the VPN connection, my jabber account continues to think it is online.

This in itself is not a big deal, but then when I reconnect and send a message
I start running into problems.  From my perspective, the message appears to be
sent, but the person I am sending the message to reports that they never
receive the message.
