cumulative diff

Here's a cumulative diff for my branch, with rather less diffstat. It passes
tests when built normally (well, 3 tests fail in my environment, but that's not
a regression - the same tests fail on master), and it compiles with Aegis
enabled, but I haven't yet tested it on a device where Aegis works.
