I've merged sjokkis's commits into my branch now, make check does not pass for
some obscure reason though.

Again, sorry for this misunderstanding, luckily our branches were close enough
to make merging easy, so I've taken the best of both.

The bug is now assigned to sjokkis and I let him continue his work based on
this.
