This wouldn't be the first time we'd worked around a Properties implementation
- telepathy-glib has never used dbus-glib's implementation of Properties,
because I spotted a serious mis-design in the way it dealt with properties, and
worked around it by using TpDBusPropertiesMixin instead. (What I didn't realise
at the time was that part of that mis-design was in fact a security bug,
CVE-2010-1172...)
