I'm considering to switch to GNetworkMonitor in Empathy (
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=672976 ) but ideally we should
really get this info from MC.

Some thoughts about this issue would be welcome if only to know if I'm on crack
or not.
