This isn't going to happen for 5.14 if we want it to happen at roughly the same
time as GNOME 3.4. Jonny and I agreed IRL that we should land the branches from
this bug (which he already reviewed) and get them in 5.14, then do the
transition to GVariants in 5.15.

So: bug as-stated fixed in git for 5.13.2 (whose release-prep I'm doing now),
and see Bug #54875 and its blockers for the other stuff.
