On closer inspection, Will Thompson fixed this specific crash (Bug #44939).

In all the other places that Jonny added more resilience, the failure mode for
a missing connection manager would be that the TpProtocol on which we're trying
to call IdentifyAccount would be NULL, but as far as I can see, that could only
happen if a CM with the AccountStorage interface was still installed, but lost
support for a protocol during an upgrade.
