Sorry, I realise that was a bit ambiguous. What I meant is: apply my patch
(avoiding deprecated API while preserving existing functionality, even if that
functionality is not really desirable), then deprecate the function in favour
of close_channels() and destroy_channels() (which hopefully addresses Xavier's
objection).
