I have no idea if usage of iptables can help, I never worked with network
related development. All I know is the steps done by the user when wishing to
use Tor for web browsing and e-mail (i.e. defining a proxy and using SOCKS). If
there's a system-wide solution which Telepathy can make use of, I'll happily
file a bug in the appropriate place (e.g. GNOME's network settings manager).
