Please don't flip bug severity fields for arguments.

Yes OTR and other encryption systems like OMEMO or OpenPGP would be useful. 

There's an OTR proxy in kde-telepathy,
https://github.com/KDE/ktp-common-internals/tree/master/otr-proxy

With some work Empathy could probably be taught to use it.

I vaguely recall the otr-proxy showed some limitations with the telepathy spec.
