The Empathy ubuntu-online-accounts plugin appears to rely on this signal, which
is probably unwise, because from a cursory look through the MC code, I can't
see how it could possibly work.

Please either implement it (with regression tests and documentation), add
sufficient regression tests and documentation to MC that it isn't going to
randomly break because the MC maintainers don't know how it's meant to work, or
stop using it.

I'm going to mark it as deprecated until someone documents it.
