Perhaps you should make it clear, that the Tokens can be persisted (in
the client) across connections, and should be stored on client side to
avoid requesting avatars each time the client is re-launched (which is
the point of that API ?)

So the client has to:
1. First time it launches: GetAvatarTokens(contacts), and save the
received tokens
2. Compared saved tokens with the GetAvatarTokens(contacts), and then
for each different token, save the new token, and RequestAvatar(contact)

This seems non-obvious to me when reading the spec description..
