Voice/video calls do not require support from the server.

By the glib binding, do you mean libtelepathy? libtelepathy mostly only
changes in respose to changes in the Telepathy spec nowadays.

The dbus-glib binding hasn't changed much in a while, but there are plans to
reform the API which promise to make it much more pleasant to use.
