[Telepathy] telepathy: how to get information from the stream-engine

I have success in making the telepathy client "tp_caller" (from project
telepathy-sofiasip) working.

If I would like the stream-engine to bring back information to the
telepathy client tp_caller, for example current duration of the call.
What should I implement?
Can the information be addressed directly to the telepathy client
tp_caller or must it passed through the connection-manager?
