[Telepathy] Telepathy Tubes in Java?

I'm a student learning Java, and I was wondering how feasible it would be
to implement a (stream) Tubes client in Java.  Has anyone attempted to do
something similar?  Is it worth trying?

The only project I've found that might help is here:

...and the last changes are from 2008, so I don't know how much of it is
still relevant.

So if it's not something that's doable with a reasonable amount of effort,
I'd like to know.  It's hard for me to determine that as I'm not very
familiar with Telepathy (and I'm a novice programmer to begin with).  But
if it is, could I get some advice on how to start?
