[Uim] UIM as XIM problems

Hello again!

I've now started experimenting with UIM as XIM. I'm having a problem
with it though... I've started uim-xim, but whenever I try to use
uim-anthy through XIM in a program, all the characters disappear. I
might see a bit of mojibake for a split second, then a kanji selection
list appears, and in the end there's no output. Here are the env vars
I've tried:

GTK_IM_MODULE="uim-anthy" XMODIFIERS=@im=uim-anthy LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8
LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8 ${1+"$@"} <-- That's just a
substitute for the program name

GTK_IM_MODULE="uim-anthy" XMODIFIERS=@im=uim-anthy LANGUAGE=ja_JP.UTF-8
LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8 ${1+"$@"}

GTK_IM_MODULE="uim-anthy" XMODIFIERS=@im=uim-anthy LANGUAGE=ja_JP
LANG=ja_JP LC_ALL=ja_JP ${1+"$@"}

In all instances I get the same error, at least in GIMP and mlterm.

Could it be a font problem? After all, all of the env vars I listed here
work in GTK2 programs and even with kinput2, but not with uim-xim.
