[Uim] Should we have a stable branch?

Well, personally I know I wouldn't really use the stable branch. ;) But, 
I think it's a good idea, especially to let package maintainers on 
systems like Debian and Gentoo have stable versions that they can pass 
on to their users. That would be an absolute plus.
